Aptos Vineyard seeks a career-minded wine professional to manage our new tasting room in Aptos Village.
Aptos Vineyard was established in 1974 by Judge John and Patti Marlo. In 2018, after the Judge’s passing, close friend James Baker and his family purchased the wine label. Over the years, Aptos Vineyard has established itself as a micro-négoce, producing high-quality wine from the Santa Cruz Mountains, relying on expert winemakers and exceptional vineyards. Aptos Vineyard has reemerged as a family label, revitalized. We are a local and women-owned family business with deep roots in the Aptos community. We are thrilled to be opening our first tasting room this summer.
We are seeking a Tasting Room Manager to oversee all tasting room operations, including being the primary staff. They will also manage the wine club and coordinate events. This may include being present at events. We are a small family-run business, and everyone does a bit of everything, so expect activities to change and grow as we grow and learn.
Since we are a micro-négoce, we want someone who can speak to the different wines and styles of winemaking (four winemakers, five vineyards)
We may offer educational tastings and pairing events
Opportunity to assist with social media and marketing
Host groups and provide memorable and positive tasting experiences.
Communicate with guests and others about the unique nature of Santa Cruz Mountain wines. Including the distinctions between our winemakers and vineyards
Sell our wines in a direct-to-consumer environment
Encourage guests to join our Wine Club and support wine club shipments and allotments
Ability to sell over the phone, book reservations, and always provide top-level customer service
Support reporting and tracking of various metrics associated with the tasting room and wine club
Must be driven, possess an outgoing personality, and have the aptitude to solve problems and communicate
Communicates, interacts, and works effectively with others; receptive to feedback and coaching; voices concerns constructively
Participate in regular updates with the family
May schedule and supervise supplemental staff
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
1–2+ years of hospitality experience is preferred but not required
Focused and has a positive outlook, enthusiastic and creative
Takes the initiative, is reliable, adaptable, and a team player
Must be able to work weekends and holidays
Possesses a broad knowledge of wine and varietals
Minimum of two years of relevant work experience within the wine industry
Responsible Beverage Service Certificate required or be completed within 60 days of hire date
Professional wine certification a plus (Sommelier, CSW, WSET)
Familiarity with Commerce 7 Point of Sale Systems is a plus
We plan to be open Friday–Sunday, eventually moving to Wednesday–Sunday. In addition to being the primary staff at the tasting room, additional hours may be required for wine club and event coordination/staffing.
Most hours are between Noon to 8:00 PM, and weekend availability is a must!
Work at our tasting room in Aptos Village, California
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs (case of wine) regularly and remain standing on feet for long periods of time
Provide own transportation
Must be 21 years of age or older
Competitive hourly rate plus tips and commissions.
